The book is out!
My book, The Heiress’s Daughter is out — ready to buy in e-book, paperback and audio book. Thank you to all those who preordered it, and no doubt have it already.
Publication day is always a bit fraught for authors — will people buy it? Will people like it? I looked on amazon to check the book’s rating, which gives a rough idea of how well it’s selling and was dismayed to see a one star rating with this comment:
I own practically every book Ms. Gracie has written, but will no longer purchase her books. The digital format should not be this high. She has priced herself out of the market. I will wait until it reaches the thrift stores.
The thing is, it’s the publisher, not me, who sets the price. I agree the e-book price is quite steep, but I have no control about things like that. And I can’t explain to that person — I just have to suck it up. :(
My paperback arrived today. I am saving them to read all together. – well my TBR pile is way too high, so I have lots to keep me busy. I may have to start before the last one comes out.

Thanks, Pam — lovely of you to say so. Yes, some people don’t understand that with traditional publishing, authors don’t have the freedom to choose price etc that self-publishing authors do. I would make it cheaper if I could — my two self published books were as cheap as I could make them.
I pre-ordered this book as soon as it was announced. It arrived on my Kindle on Tuesday night and I read it on Wednesday. I loved this book. I will pre-order the next book in the series. There are 5 authors whose books I always purchase because I re-read them frequently. Anne Gracie is one of those authors. I don’t worry about the price. Authors must make a living and if I truly enjoy their books, I pay for the privilege of reading them. I do also use my public library frequently. I tend to read about 5 books a… Read more »
Thanks so much for that, Sandy. It’s lovely of you to say so. I also have some auto-buy authors, and rereadiing is one of the reasons for buying them. And the public library is a good alternative if books get too expensive.
There are a few authors whose books I always pre-order or purchase, and you are one of them. I have noticed that the authors’ rising popularity and success is matched by the price of the books. As the authors become more widely known and widely read, the price of the books goes up. I am glad to know it is the publisher who sets the price. And I am willing to pay it for an Anne Gracie book. I have not had a chance to read “The Heiress’s Daughter” yet, but am looking forward to it.
Alena, I despair of publishers who keep raising the price of e-books. Sometimes the e-book is more expensive than the paperback, which is ridiculous, as e-books have no printing or delivery costs. But authors like me who are publisher with traditional publishers, have no say in the price at all.
I do price my self-published books (all two of them) as cheaply as I can without actually selling them at a loss.
I am halfway through my copy…and it was only delivered around 11 this morning. Frankly, I AM LOVING this book! Of course, I love ALL your books. Your character development is superb.
