Pizza for Breakfast?

It’s a lazy Sunday morning here, and I’ve just had a couple of slices of pizza for breakfast.

Pizza for breakfast? you say, mildly horrified.
Yes, I respond with glee.

I went out for dinner last night with a friend who’s moving interstate. It was a very pleasant evening, full of good book-talk and movie/TV talk. And we ate pizza. It’s a good restaurant — we’ve been there before, and they have all kinds of delicious Italian food, but we both admitted we’d had a craving for pizza recently, so that’s what we ordered.

When going for pizza, I always check the menu carefully. Will I choose this . . . or that . .  oh, and that looks delicious — but I almost always end up ordering the same thing — capricciosa — tomato puree, mushrooms, prosciutto (ham)  cheese, olives, and sometimes artichoke hearts.  It’s a classic.

But often the pizzas are quite big, which I like, because then I get to take the rest home — usually it’s around a quarter) and I have it for breakfast. I don’t always reheat it—I like cold pizza— but it’s a chilly morning here, and so I reheated it and ate it for breakfast, along with a good big strong cup of coffee. I know it sounds a bit decadent, but my normal breakfast is very healthy so on the rare occasions when I have pizza in the fridge, it’s a treat.

Do you have a favorite pizza? And would you have it for breakfast? Do you like pizza capricciosa?

We always order a larger pizza than we need for a meal. Pizza for breakfast or brunch the next day or so is a favorite. We usually have one with everything on it or a ham and pineapple version.

Ah, my pizza sister! (Though I’m not keen one ham and pineapple.) But yes, pizza for breakfast — yum!

I love pizza at any time of the day, and yes, if there is any left, I will eat it for breakfast. My favorite (I’m in the USA) is stuffed crust pepperoni pizza with onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms (and extra sauce). It’s definitely not healthy but oh, so good.

Pam, that sounds yummy. I do like bell peppers on a pizza, especially when they are slightly charred on the edges. And yes, pepperoni and mushrooms and sauce — perfect.

Pizza is a food of the gods.
Such a pity that there is so much bad pizza out there and you can waste quite a lot of time trying them before you find the good pizza.

Thanks Julie. I haven’t come across many bad pizzas, but then I tend to avoid the chain pizza stores. I prefer individual restaurants and in my area, there are plenty — and all pretty good. I’m pretty lucky that way.

I enjoy cold pizza for breakfast on occasion! My favourite is vegetarian. Leftover Chinese food is also good breakfast food. Maybe it’s because I don’t have to make something….

I always save a couple of pieces of pizza (if I can make myself) for breakfast. My favorite is pepperoni, green olives, and banana peppers. I absolutely love it cold or room temp!
