My Christmas Decorations
I’ve finally finished putting up my Christmas decorations. Here they are. Not too shabby,eh?
Oh well, if you MUST insist on veracity, these are the Langham Hotel’s decorations. I met some writer friends there last night for dinner. We always give each other small, usually home-made gifts, and I gave my usual Christmas Crack. My friend Keri also made some — a little different from mine, and added in three gorgeous little Christmas puddings — aren’t they pretty? And it was all presented in a lovely Christmas tin. (Mine were in a cellophane bag but they did have a ribbon around them. I’ve been looking in vain for nice tins at an affordable price to pack in biscuits (cookies) and things for presents, so it looks as though I’d better drive out to her country town. Only a two hour round trip. LOL
Do you have the equivalent of a Dollar Store or a Five Below there in Australia? Stores like that usually carry holiday tins and other holiday decor, as well as a bunch of other stuff.
Thanks, Karen — yes we do have that kind of shop (we call them $2 shops), and I’ve been to 5 shops, and there are plenty of Christmas decorations, but no pretty tins. My friend said in her $2 shop in her small country town there are lots, so I might have to drive up there. But it’s a 2 hour round trip, and this is a busy time of year, so I might just have to use nice cardboard boxes. After all it’s the contents that matter, really.

Lovely that you have this annual tradition to meet with your group of friends and exchange home-made gifts. Those mean the most to me, especially if they taste good.
Happy Christmas to you in your warm season. I will be driving thru the snowy cold days to visit some of my family. I grew up in the southern hemisphere where the candles melted before completing their burning. We would sing songs such as “In the bleak mid-winter” never having known cold or snow.

I hear you on the melting candles — I once bought some gorgeous little red candles to go in some Swedish candle holders that clip onto a Christmas tree, They looked beautiful the first time, but the following Christmas when I got them out to use again they were all twisty and deformed. And yes, it’s crazy that here, where it’s hot at Christmas, many of us still follow the Northern Hemisphere traditions. It’s slowly changing though.

LOL Malvina — yes, impressive getting those staircases into a one story house. *g* I’m about to make another batch of Christmas Crack to give to my former school-friends’ group, who are gathering here for lunch on Sunday. It’s a “bring a plate” occasion, and I’m making a pav.
And BTW Thank you for your recommendation of Katherine Center’s The Rom-Commers on ARRA. I bought it and devoured it and have now bought more of her books.
