In French

This morning I received an email from my publisher, with the French cover for my book The Heiress’s Daughter. The process is, Berkley sells the French rights to them, they translate the book  and design the cover,  and then it’s sent for me for approval.

So this is it.  

It’s not how I imagined my heroine, Clarissa, but after having written more than 25 books, I’ve learned that that doesn’t really matter — what the cover design is all about is to appeal to readers.  So, as long as the cover is pretty, I generally approve it. And I think this one is very pretty. I love her outfit, and it does vaguely suggest the riding habit that Clarissa admired in the story.

I have also learned to trust the various foreign language publishers to know what appeals to their readership. The series that started with The Autumn Bride had no people on the covers at all, which surprised me. You can see a couple of them below.
I also approved those covers, because I decided to trust the publisher. And since they’re back for more of my books, I’m happy.
