Catching up

I caught up with some writing friends last night. We met at an Italian restaurant on Southbank in Melbourne. The south bank of the Yarra River is crammed with all kinds of good shops and lots of excellent restaurants and hotels. We have our favorites.  Below was the view from our table on the balcony, looking across the Yarra River towards the Melbourne CBD.. It was a beautifully clear-but-mild night, and that small white blob in the sky was a crescent moon hanging over Melbourne. Sadly my phone wasn’t up to taking a good, clear moon pic.

It was lovely catching up — when I was driving home, I reflected that I’d really missed talking to writing friends about writing and publishing and the business. These are friends I’ve known for years, and we remember each other’s first publications and our various ups and downs,. Luckily there have been more ups than downs for all of us.

So we talked all evening, some personal stuff, but mostly about writing, the ever-changing market, the stories people were working on, news of other writing people we know, and all sorts, until it was time to go. For me it was just what the doctor ordered — a perfect balance of writing and friendship.
